Hook, Line & Sinker...

A couple more emailed fishing reports hit my inbox this evening. The first came from Charlie Bruggemann, who launched at Ashville Bridge Creek today. He said he barely had enough water to get in there. His day included 9 bass, the biggest a 2-4; all the rest were dinks. However, he also caught 7 pickerel, the biggest a 2-9, along with 1 bluegill and 1 yellow perch.

The other report came from Jim Bauer, who, like a lot of other folks, launched at West Neck this morning. Jim's tally was 2 bass (both dinks), 1 white perch, and 1 bream. He caught all but one of the fish on a "souped up" bettle spin. He boated the bream at the bridge with a fly rod. Non-productive baits included the Bomber Square A in firetiger and pearl shad, the Mann's Baby 1-Minus in firetiger, the Rapala Rippin' Rap in pearl gray shiner, a chartreuse/white chatterbait, and, of course, his "old reliable"--the Slider worm.

Jim described it as "sort of like old home day" on the water today. He met up with Al Lemieux, who had 3 small bass and 3 white perch at the time. Jim and Eddie Sapp wound up following each other to the marina and launching one after the other this morning. As they compared notes at the end of the day, Eddie said he finished with at least a dozen bass--none of 'em very big. And like yesterday, when he and Paul Celentano fished the Goody's Big Bass Tournament, all the fish were caught on soft plastics.

Among the other "regulars" Jim ran across today were Bobby Moore, Bob Glass, and Mark London--no reports on how their day was going, though.

The water temp when Jim launched this morning was just over 51 degrees. It reached 54 at one time today but had dropped back to about 52 when he quit at 4 o'clock this afternoon.

As both Charlie and Jim commented, "It was a nice day after the fog lifted." If the weather folks are right, rain is supposed to start sometime tomorrow and continue through at least Wednesday. Those conditions likely will curtail fishing for the short haul, but if you should get out and would like to share your results with me, I'll be happy to let the world know.

Tight Lines!
