High Water, Lots of Fish

Despite a week in which I had given our tourney anglers less than a 25-percent chance of being able to hold today's tournament because of high water, Mother Nature turned kind enough just in time for us to have the event as scheduled. Twenty-three anglers in 13 boats showed up for the event.

Leading today's charge was this team of repeat winners from last week's tournament, (from left) John Goodman and Mark London. They captured the 1st-place prize money with a five-fish limit weighing 17.94 lbs., anchored by a bass that tipped the scales at 4.46 lbs., which was good enough to claim big-fish honors for the day, as well.

Finishing in 2nd place today was this team of (from left) Allen Napier and Chris Napier, who also brought five fish to the scales with a total weight of 14.23 lbs. Their big fish weighed 4.22 lbs.

Grabbing 3rd-place honors today was this team of (from left) Randy Conkle and Bob Glass. They weighed a five-fish limit that rang up at 13.05 lbs., anchored by a 4.04-lb. bass.

In 4th place today was this team of (from left) Mike Miller and Chris Fretard, who had a five-fish bag weighing 10.99 lbs. They didn't weigh a big fish.

The final team to walk away with a money envelope today consisted of (from left) Dennis Cohen and Ronnie McLaughlin, who won the mystery-weight drawing with a five-fish sack weighing 7.06 lbs. That total was closest to the drawn weight of 6.15 lbs.

Here is how all the other contestants finished:

     * The team of Chris Carmell and Jeremy Gatewood, five fish, 10.38 lbs. total weight, 2.40-lb. big fish.
     * Steve Bailey, five fish, 9.71 lbs. total weight, 3.56-lb. big fish.
     * The team of Mitch Portervint and Skip Schaible, five fish, 8.13 lbs. total weight, no big fish.
     * Al Napier, five fish, 7.12 lbs. total weight, 2.51-lb. big fish.
     * Gary Coderre, three fish, 5.04 lbs. total weight, no big fish.
     * The team of Zach Ivic and Luke Cooper, four fish, 5.00 lbs. total weight, no big fish.
     * The team of Brent Gregory and James Libengood, three fish, 3.62 lbs. total weight, no big fish.
     * The team of Rob Chatham and Ken Testorff, one fish, 1.05 lbs. total weight, no big fish.

Overall, the anglers today weighed a total of 56 bass for a total weight of 113.32 lbs. The average weight was 2.02 lbs.

For planning purposes, our next event is scheduled for next Saturday, May 10, from safe light (about 6 o'clock) to 2 p.m. I hope you can join us.
