Still Adding to His Numbers

Ron's 4-6 from Tecumseh
From 0800 to 1300 yesterday, Ron spent time in Spitzle Creek.

As he described it, "The water was very low and murky," and he only caught one dink bass on the XTS Minnow before heading to the skinny northeastern creek in the back of the oxbow across from Pungo Ferry Landing Park. Here, he picked up six more dinks (nothing over 12 inches). Half of them fell for the Whopper Plopper; the other half went for the XTS.

In his own words, "I covered a lotta miles for a few fish, none of which rated using the scale."

Sunrise this morning found Ron headed to Tecumseh.

At 0734, he was boating a nice 4-lb. 6-oz. bass, followed a few minutes later by a dink. Both fish hit the WP. Then, it was, as he described the situation, "Not another bite, swipe or nibble until 1000, when the wind became just too annoying," and he packed up and headed home.

In closing, Ron noted that both his 5-5 from Lake Smith and his 4-6 from Tecumseh measured 21 inches. He also let me know he might head back out this evening to see if he could find some crappie.

Between 3:30 and 5:30 this evening, Ron prowled around the low but very clear water in Milldam Creek. He found three crappie in the 10-to-12-inch range, which he said was "just enough to round out a nice dinner when combined with the ones I got the other day."

In addition to the crappie, Ron caught three bass, weighing 1-3, 1-7 and 1-11.

If a pattern existed this evening, Ron never figured it out. "I caught fish on the bank and out in the open water," he said. Successful lures included the WP, XTS and Road Runner.

"It was a long day with the two trips," he noted. "I'll sleep well."

Monday, Nov. 7th...With the daylight cut short, Ron only managed an hour on the water this evening, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. His search for crappie turned out to be a chilly and windy adventure, with only one dink bass to show for his efforts. The dink (about 11 inches long) fell for a beetlespin, and Ron said he didn't have another bite.

"It wasn't worth the effort," he admitted, "but I still enjoy getting out on the water."

Looking ahead to Tuesday afternoon, he noted it's predicted to warm to 66 degrees, "so maybe I can find a better bite," he concluded.
