Fishermen Always Need a Plan B

Don't have to take my word for it. Just ask D Mac, who said he slipped out today in hopes of getting on another white perch bite like the one he had a few days ago. Instead of returning to the site of his earlier success, though, he chose another creek. And the fish in the new hole weren't so willing to cooperate.

Along about 9 a.m., with only a couple of small white perch to show for his efforts, D Mac threw a popper off a nice-lookin' point and almost immediately had a bass slam it. That's the only motivation he needed to put away all the white-perch gear and grab his bass rods. It was game on 'til about 11:30, when it got hot and windy. In that length of time, he put 8 bass in the boat...all with topwater baits.

D Mac noted the water was high and clean this morning, with the temperature running 84 degrees. He also said the Pungo Ferry ramp seemed pretty busy for a Friday.
