Today's Tournament Turnout a Bit More Than Expected

When this morning's registration closed at 5:45 a.m., there were 17 anglers in 10 boats signed up for today's competition. At day's end, they weighed in a grand total of 40 bass with an accumulative weight of 75.34 pounds and an average weight per fish of 1.88 pounds.

Those anglers who pocketed pay envelopes today included the following:

Taking home 1st place, as well as the bigger of two side pots and big-fish honors, was the team of (from left) Dave Anderson and Skip Schaible. Their five-fish limit weighed 13.51 pounds, and their big fish weighed 3.48 pounds.

Finishing in 2nd place and also claiming the smaller side pot was the husband-wife team of (from left) Andy and Diana Morath. Their five-fish limit weighed 11.76 pounds, and their big fish weighed 3.36 pounds.

And in 3rd place was the team of (from left) Chris Napier and Gary Coderre. Their five-fish limit weighed 11.04 pounds. They didn't have a big fish.

Here is the finishing order for the remainder of the participants today:

     * The team of Jim Crist and Eric Killian, five fish, 9.28 pounds total weight, with no big fish.
     * The team of Wayne Hayes and Ken Testorff, five fish, 9.20 pounds total weight, and a big fish weighing 2.67 pounds.
     * Mark Ingram, five fish, 7.50 pounds total weight, with no big fish.
     * Tommy Dewitt, five fish, 7.23 pounds total weight, and a big fish weighing 2.20 pounds.
     * The team of Jim Leavis and Ken Matthias, three fish, 4.21 pounds total weight, with no big fish.
     * The team of Robert Benfield and Johnathon Kelley, two fish, 1.61 pounds total weight, with no big fish.
     * Don Carter did not weigh any fish.

Three more anglers today joined the list of those who have qualified to fish our season-ending Classic tournament. The latest additions include Mark Ingram, Jim Crist, and Ken Matthias.

Before leaving the West Neck Marina premises today, Mark shared the fact he had found a small surprise in his livewell during inspection of same following today's tournament. I snapped this photo of the surprise. Would not have expected to find a red-colored craw this time of year. A commonly held belief is that this color is usually found in the wintertime.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to everyone who came out to participate today. For planning purposes, our next scheduled Dewey's tournament is Saturday, Aug. 26th, from safe light (about 6 a.m.) to weigh-in at 2 p.m.
