In his latest note, DMac was taking note of the fact that "as we get older, our tolerance for hot weather gets less and less." Of course, he was making reference to that recent string of super hot days, when we...and for that matter, most of the U.S...was embroiled in triple-digit heat indexes each day.
Anyway, DMac went on to say that he had gotten a few days on the water recently. One of the trips was with his son and his wife to a private lake just past Franklin. They didn't catch any big 'uns but did manage to boat 15 fish on rubber worms and Whopper Ploppers. "Fun day for sho," as he characterized that trip.
Prior to that trip, however, DMac and his son had gone to the Pasquotank one day, where the bite started super slow. Said they didn't have even a hint until 9 a.m., then caught six fish in an hour and missed a few more. At that point, the bite shut down just as fast as it had started, and they got off the water by 11:30 to beat the heat.
DMac closed out his latest note by saying he wished he could have fished this past Wednesday, when the morning temperature in Chesapeake was hanging around 65 degrees in the early a.m.
I can assure him it had to have been nice, 'cause I was on the water out of West Neck the following day, when the temps again were about the same. I fished 'til 2 p.m. without hardly breaking a sweat. Fishin' days like that around here truly are at a premium this time of year.
