Monday, Aug. 2 (from Ron)...Beautiful evening. Fished Milldam Creek and was doing well on plastic worms. Caught several bass that were all 15 inches and was having fun but couldn't help wondering where the big ones were. Shifted to topwater (Pop Frog Z) as the sun set and had a very subtle swirl. Waited and watched the line run out, set the hook and...Bam!...got a nice 21.5-inch 4-7 bass to round out the evening.
Tuesday, Aug. 3 (from Ron)...Went out to West Neck in the "light rain" and realized that, after a certain amount of time, even "light rain" will get you soaked. Caught several bass but nothing over 15 inches. Zoom U Vibes and Pop Frogs worked for the small ones this evening.
Wednesday, Aug. 4 (from Ron)...Fished West Neck again this evening. Caught about four or five bass but nothing over 17
inches. The topwater bite was non-existent. Plastic worms, though, were working.
Saturday, Aug. 7 (from Ron)...Have been fishing hard this week. After the Wednesday update, I fished again Thursday, Friday and today. On Friday, did a morning trip
to Milldam and caught several small bass, nothing over 17 inches. Also lost a huge bowfin. Did the long trip to Tecumseh Friday
evening and got skunked. This morning, I fished the lake of stumps
before the deluge and caught a dink and a 21-inch fatty. Wished I had had
my scale, because that fish easily was over 5 lbs. Still no topwater bite, and the plastic worms (U Vibes and
SwimSenko) seem to be the ticket, but the bite is very subtle. Green
pumpkin and watermelon red fleck with a keel weighted hook seems to work best.
Sunday, Aug. 8 (from Ron)...Had to drive the kids' stuff up to Fairfax (GMU) this morning: 4 hours north and 5.5 hours south. After all that traffic and stress, I got out for a quick evening trip to de-stress. Caught a dink and a nice 4-4 bass that set everything back in perspective.
