Still Catchin' 'Em on the Whopper Plopper

With the North Landing gauge at 3.4 feet of water at 0645 today (and falling at the time he emailed the results to me), Ron launched his kayak for what turned out to be a five-hour, 5.8-mile roundtrip to a long feeder creek in Blackwater. Conditions at the start were very similar to what we encountered at West Neck Marina yesterday morning: The docks at Blackwater Trading Post were under water.

His catch included a 1-13 (pictured here), 1-8, and 1-5, plus one dink--all on the Whopper Plopper.

"The better bite came early on in the creek but disappeared the further I went," said Ron. "Senkos were not working because the wind was too strong." He went on to explain that he tried the Silver Minnow and XTS, as well, "but the Whopper to points, when the grass allowed, seemed to be the ticket."

Ron said the wind died down completely as it began transitioning to the north, "and I could really feel the heat," he noted.

"Nice to get some bass again," Ron allowed. Incidentally, he pointed out that the "red" belly in the accompanying photo is an effect of the sun shining off his orange life vest.
