Hail...hail...the gang's all here for the...well, it wasn't exactly the Alabama Jubilee, but it nevertheless was a festive event for a very good cause, and the weather couldn't have been better, except that some probably would have preferred a few degrees cooler. Overall, though, I really didn't hear any serious gripes, especially after the chief cook hollered, "Come and get it!"
The fishermen always do show up in force.
And after eight hours on the water comes the moment of "truth"...yessir, the weigh master always has to dispel all those fishermen's lies.
Then comes the moment when all those anglers, both young and old, find out if they earned one of those prized trophies that have been on display all day.
Take my word for it, there aren't too many bashful people in this crowd. Oh, you might come that way, but you won't be when you leave--take my word for it. The appropriate phrase here is: "And a good time was had by all!"
Here are the raffle prizes everyone in attendance gets to salivate over all day long. The best advice I can offer here is: Get out of the way once those names start being called...or you're apt to get run over.
A pretty shot of the West Neck Marina setting where everything went down today. In the distance on the right are some of those bank fishermen who, like the folks in boats, were vying for one of those trophies.
No Classic ever is complete until Chris and his wife gather for the group shot with all of the day's tournament winners.
A lot of people deserve a ton of thanks for everything they contributed toward making today's event another successful battle in the war against cancer. I think it's pretty safe to say we've all lost friends and/or family to this dreaded disease, and it takes grassroots efforts like the Cancer Classic if we're ever going to get a handle on finding a lasting cure. Well done!!! to everyone who had a hand in the final statistics for today. Keep watching my blog for the final tally. I'll post it as soon as Chris gets it all sorted out.
