Looks Like Yesterday Was the Day To Go Fishing...
That's the feeling I get, based on the reports I received. Everybody seems to have caught fish, and after all, that's why we go, right?
From my friend, Jim Bauer, who is nearing the end of a week on Lake Gaston, came word that both he and his brother, Rick, who has been down there with him the whole time, had a prosperous day. Jim's tally included a 1-14, 1-6, and a 1-4.
Rick is pictured here with the 1-12--a personal best--that he caught yesterday morning. He also had a 1-2 and a dink to go with that personal best. As duly noted by Jim, "Not bad for someone who only fishes once every three years or so."
As Jim further explained, both missed and/or lost a couple fish yesterday, too. Productive baits for the Bauer brothers were a swim bait, a French fry, and worm.
"Very nice day, with lots of sun and light winds," is the way Jim described Thursday's conditions. He also said they saw a couple of bloody tails, as well as lots of continued activity by bream and bass around the boat dock. And, of course, what would any bassin' trip be without a couple of "nasty critter" (otherwise known as snakes) sightings thrown in?
Today will end the Lake Gaston vacation for the Bauer brothers--a respite they've both desperately needed in view of the family situation they've been dealing with in recent weeks. You see, one of their other brothers is in the final stage of his battle with cancer and, according to doctors, "probably only has about a week left," as Jim and Rick learned yesterday in a text from their nephew. May the good Lord bless and comfort the whole family.
The other reports I saw were from my friends, Charlie Bruggemann and Ray Scott. They both caught fish yesterday, as well. So much for the Solunar Tables in my latest issue of Bassmaster magazine, because a check of that this morning revealed that yesterday should have been anything but a good day. To be honest, though, I've never planned a single trip using those tables. I simply go whenever I get a chance and hope for the best.
