The day started a little rocky for the two pleasure boaters who launched their craft from the ramp beside the West Landing Marina Store. They weren't aware of the siltation problem that exists there. The only safe launch ramp at West Landing nowadays is the one located directly on the North Landing River. Thanks to help from a handful of bass fishermen, these pleasure boaters managed to salvage their day on the water after all.
There were some nice fish brought to the scales at weigh-in, starting with this bass.
Here's another...
And another...
And yet another.
In keeping with a long-standing tradition, no Cancer Classic is complete without some musicians to set the tone of things.
Following weigh-in, anglers park their rigs and get ready for the rest of the day's festivities.
There's always plenty of good food and conversation.
Some folks enjoy a horse ride...
even this member of the younger set.
Here, a couple of young boys try their hand at a little bank fishing.
And, of course, there's always the presentation of trophies to all the winners of the various divisions of the fishing tournament.
Then comes the raffle drawing.
And all of this is thanks to the perseverance and planning of Chris Vitovich, his loving family, and devoted staff, who freely invest their time and energy to this annual American Cancer Society fundraising project in memory of Steve Gambill. My hat is off to each and every one of them.
