Nothing Can Match the Passion of Youth

The late-Ray Hardy and I used to take turns breaking enough winter ice to launch at West Neck and make our way out to clear water in the channel. However, I can assure you the ice we were dealing with didn't come anywhere close to what you see in this photo from the latest issue of Jay Kumar's BassBlaster.

According to Jay, these two college kids, with a bass boat in tow, showed up at a New York lake that had opened up for about a week. A local fella told them the ice still was pretty thick, to which they said, "We got sledgehammers." The two of them reportedly worked on that ramp for more than an hour to get their boat in.
