That's right. This park now officially is open 24-7. I was tipped off about it yesterday, checked it out with the folks at Virginia Beach Parks & Rec, and received an email confirmation this morning. You indeed can launch here whenever you like.
The rumored reason behind this move is that there has been some cases of vandalism to the entrance after hours, and the city is tired of having to deal with it. They evidently feel it's easier just to leave the gate open.
'Twould seem this change likely will influence the number of bass tournaments that launch out of there, especially if the "no launch fee" remains in effect, and I've heard nothing about that aspect going away.
